Court Refuses Bid to Bar Senator Kingibe from ADC Activities

The Federal High Court in Abuja has rejected an ex parte application seeking to stop Senator Ireti Kingibe from taking part in the activities of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a ruling delivered on Thursday, Justice Peter Lifu declined the request filed by some ward leaders from Wuse in the Federal Capital Territory, who claimed the senator had been suspended over alleged anti-party activities.

Rather than grant the request, the court directed the plaintiffs to formally notify Kingibe of the suit, giving her the opportunity to respond to the allegations.

The ward leaders, said to be loyal to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, had asked the court to restrain the lawmaker from presenting herself as a member of the party or participating in its affairs.

However, Justice Lifu stressed that the court must act carefully, especially in political matters, and ensure fairness to all parties involved.

He noted that justice would only be achieved if both sides were given the chance to present their arguments.

The judge subsequently ordered that all court documents be served on Kingibe to allow her prepare her defence and adjourned the case to April 20, 2026, for hearing.

The suit, filed by Okezuo Anayo and Isaiah Samuel on behalf of other ward members, alleged that Kingibe was suspended on March 10, 2026, for misconduct and violation of the party’s constitution.

They also accused her of disregarding the suspension by continuing to hold meetings, issue statements, and interfere in ward activities.

Meanwhile, a lawyer representing the senator informed the court that a preliminary objection challenging the suit had already been filed and served on the plaintiffs’ counsel.
