Messi’s Late Magic Seals 3–2 Win for Inter Miami in Thrilling MLS Clash

Lionel Messi delivered a stunning performance as Inter Miami edged the Colorado Rapids 3–2 in a dramatic Major League Soccer encounter played in front of over 75,000 fans on Saturday.

The match, moved to a larger NFL stadium in Denver due to overwhelming demand, looked set to swing in Colorado’s favour after the hosts fought back from two goals down. But Messi had the final say, scoring a brilliant late winner to seal victory for Inter Miami.

Having earlier converted a penalty, the Argentine superstar struck again with just over 10 minutes remaining. Latching onto a precise pass from Rodrigo De Paul, Messi burst into the box and calmly slotted a left-footed shot through a crowded defence into the corner of the net.

The goal secured a winning debut for Inter Miami’s new coach, Guillermo Hoyos, who recently took over following the departure of Javier Mascherano.

“We have the greatest player in history, someone who completely changes the momentum of matches,” Hoyos said after the game.

Inter Miami had taken the lead in the first half when Messi calmly converted from the spot after a foul on Yannick Bright. They doubled their advantage just before halftime through German Berterame, who headed home from close range.

However, Colorado mounted a strong comeback in the second half. Rafael Navarro pulled one back with a powerful solo effort, before substitute Darren Yapi equalised minutes later after a well-timed run.

Just as the momentum seemed to favour the home side, Messi produced his moment of brilliance to restore Miami’s lead and ultimately secure the win.

The victory lifts Inter Miami to second place in the Eastern Conference, continuing their strong run following last season’s MLS Cup triumph.

Despite the excitement, the match ended on a tense note as Yannick Bright was sent off late in the game for protesting a referee’s decision.

Still, the night belonged to Messi, whose late heroics once again proved decisive on the big stage.
