A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress in Nasarawa State, Faisal Shuaib, has stepped down from the 2027 race and declared support for Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, the preferred candidate of Governor Abdullahi Sule.
Shuaib made the announcement on Monday in Lafia during a press conference, following consultations with supporters and stakeholders across the state’s 13 local government areas.
Describing the decision as difficult but necessary, the former boss of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency said he chose party unity over personal ambition.
“I am formally withdrawing from the contest and throwing my full weight behind Senator Wadada,” he said. “This decision is guided by my commitment to unity and my respect for the collective direction of our party.”
He explained that the move followed a meeting convened by Governor Sule, where aspirants from the Nasarawa West senatorial zone were encouraged to agree on a consensus candidate ahead of the primaries. When that effort failed, the governor stepped in to make a final call.
Shuaib said he had earlier pledged to support whichever candidate the governor endorsed and was determined to keep his word.

“That promise was not meant for easy times. It was meant for moments like this,” he said.
He thanked his supporters for their dedication and urged them to remain calm and aligned with the party’s broader goal.
“I understand the disappointment, but we must rise above it and focus on the unity and progress of our party,” he added.
Shuaib also extended a hand of partnership to Wadada, assuring him of his support moving forward.
“My commitment to the development of Nasarawa State does not end here. It only takes a different path,” he said.
He further called on Nigerians to remain patient with ongoing reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that meaningful change often takes time.
