Anambra Govt Clears Security Adviser Over Misconduct Allegation

The Anambra State Government says its investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct against Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s Security Adviser, Ken Emeakayi, has found the claims to be false and misleading.

The allegations were initially made by human rights lawyer and public commentator, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, who accused Emeakayi of having an improper relationship with Mrs Mmasi Nwangwu, wife of detained native doctor Chukwudozie Nwangwu, popularly known as “Akwa Okuko Tiwaraki.”

The claims sparked widespread public debate, especially amid the prosecution and conviction of the controversial native doctor.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the governor’s media aide, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, the state government disclosed that a fact-finding committee set up to investigate the matter had submitted its report on May 11, clearing the security adviser of any wrongdoing.

According to the statement, the committee was chaired by the Anambra State Attorney-General, Tobechukwu Nweke (SAN), alongside senior lawyers from the Ministry of Justice. The panel reportedly took evidence from all parties directly involved in the matter.

The government said Ken Emeakayi, Mrs Nwangwu, and lawyers representing her husband all appeared before the committee and gave testimonies.

However, the state government claimed that despite several invitations sent to Prof. Odinkalu through text messages and requests for virtual or physical appearances, he failed to honour any of them or provide evidence to support his allegations.

After reviewing the testimonies and submissions before it, the committee concluded that there was no personal or improper relationship between Emeakayi and Mrs Nwangwu.

“The committee found the allegation to be false and misleading,” the statement added.

The Anambra State Government also reaffirmed its commitment to due process, fairness, and protecting public officials from what it described as malicious and unverified accusations.

Reacting to the report, Prof. Odinkalu rejected the findings and described the investigation as an “amateur cover-up.”

In a post shared on social media, he insisted that his allegations against the governor’s aide still stand.

Odinkalu revealed that he only received WhatsApp messages on April 29 and May 1 from someone claiming to be the Anambra State Attorney-General, asking him to disclose his sources and identify the security adviser involved.

He questioned the credibility of the investigation, arguing that the messages did not clearly state the legal basis, composition, or terms of reference of the panel.

According to him, conducting an official inquiry through WhatsApp raised doubts about the seriousness and authenticity of the process.

“It also seemed strange that an Attorney-General claiming to be a SAN would conduct an investigation through WhatsApp instead of a formal letter,” he stated.

Odinkalu maintained that he chose not to respond because he was unsure of the identity and credibility of the sender.

He further accused the state government of attempting to whitewash the issue and insisted that he stands by his claims despite the committee’s conclusions.
