The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening democratic governance, promoting national unity and addressing the challenges facing the country as Nigeria prepares to mark its 27th Democracy Day on June 12.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made this known after a special Juma’at prayer held as part of activities lined up for the Democracy Day celebration.
According to him, the prayer session offered Nigerians an opportunity to seek divine guidance for the nation while reflecting on the importance of peace, stability and active citizen participation in national development.
He noted that Democracy Day remains a significant occasion for Nigerians to reflect on the country’s democratic journey and honour individuals who made sacrifices for the return of democratic rule.
The minister paid tribute to the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, describing him as a symbol of courage, resilience and commitment to the will of the people.
Idris said the annual celebration also serves as a reminder of the progress made under democratic governance and the resilience of the country’s institutions over the past 27 years.
