Police Arrest Seven Suspects, Recover Firearm in Ogun Crackdown

 

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested seven suspects for alleged armed robbery, housebreaking, theft, conspiracy and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace during separate operations across the state.

The arrests were made through intelligence-led operations carried out by officers attached to the Sango-Ota, Owode-Egba and Agbado divisions.

According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, three suspects identified as Pelumi Akintonde, 21, Mojeed Sanusi, 28, and Mubarak Lateef, 17, were arrested by operatives of the Sango-Ota Division over an alleged armed robbery incident in the Alasia community.

Investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly participated in an attack on a resident, during which valuables were forcefully taken. A locally made cut-to-size pistol and an expended cartridge were recovered from them.

The police said efforts were ongoing to track down other members of the robbery gang who remain at large.

In a separate operation, officers of the Owode-Egba Division arrested 22-year-old Damilare Makanjuola over an alleged case of housebreaking and theft in Ofada.

Preliminary investigations linked the suspect to a series of burglary incidents reported within Sun City Estate, where cash, electrical appliances and other valuables were allegedly stolen from residents.

The command also arrested two suspects, Tijani Jubril, 28, and Ezra Modi, 22, for alleged conspiracy and theft at Treasure Island Estate in Awo Village.

The duo were reportedly intercepted while attempting to sell electrical appliances suspected to have been stolen from a residential building within the estate. Police investigations indicated that the property had been forcibly entered before the items were removed.

Meanwhile, operatives of the Agbado Division arrested 22-year-old Waris Adebesin for allegedly causing public disturbance and threatening violence around a secondary school environment.

The suspect was found in possession of a knife, and police said prompt intervention prevented a possible breakdown of law and order in the area.

All seven suspects are currently in police custody and undergoing further investigation.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, commended the officers involved in the operations for their professionalism and swift response. He also appreciated members of the public whose timely information contributed to the successful arrests.

The command reiterated its commitment to combating criminal activities and ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.
