In the video, which surfaced on social media on Saturday, the wife of the retired general appealed to authorities and community leaders to meet the demands of the kidnappers.
According to her, the abductors are demanding the release of three individuals identified as Sani, Aminu and Nasiru, whom they claimed are currently in custody. She stated that two of the men were arrested in Jikamshi, while the third was arrested in Kano State.
The kidnappers are also reportedly demanding the return of livestock they alleged had been seized from them.
In her appeal, she called on the Katsina State Government and leaders of five local government areas to intervene and facilitate compliance with the demands in order to secure their freedom.
Major General Abubakar also spoke briefly in the video, urging efforts toward peace and dialogue. He stated that the abductors had indicated a willingness to engage in peaceful discussions and coexistence.
Reports further suggest that a notorious bandit leader known as Kachallah Muhammad, who is believed to operate in parts of Katsina State, has established contact with members of the retired general’s family regarding the situation.
As of the time of reporting, neither the Katsina State Government nor security agencies had issued an official response to the video or the demands made by the abductors.
The incident has heightened concerns over insecurity in parts of northern Nigeria, where kidnappings for ransom and attacks by armed groups continue to pose significant challenges to residents and security authorities.
