Anambra Police Arrest Two Over Murder of Woman, Body Dumped in Culvert

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects for allegedly killing a 33-year-old woman and dumping her body in a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area.

The suspects, identified as 26-year-old Thankgod Ikechukwu Ikwugwara and 20-year-old Makuochukwu Uzoigwe, were apprehended following weeks of investigation aided by intelligence gathering and digital forensic analysis.

According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the case began on March 13, 2026, when the victim’s mother reported her missing at the Oraifite Divisional Police Headquarters.

A day later, the body of an unidentified woman was discovered inside a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop, Oraifite. The deceased was later identified by her father as his missing daughter.

Ikenga said the matter was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for further investigation, which eventually led to the arrest of the suspects on June 6.

During interrogation, the principal suspect, Ikwugwara, reportedly confessed to the crime. He claimed he had been in a relationship with the deceased for about three years and said he did not know she was married.

He alleged that after a disagreement with the woman’s husband, he developed a strange illness that affected his eyesight and became resentful.
