Master Chimkamnayo Olisaemeka, a teenager rescued from severe abuse in 2022 through the intervention of the wife of the Anambra State Governor, Nonye Soludo, is preparing to begin his university education after years of rehabilitation and support.
Speaking in Awka on Wednesday, the First Lady said the young boy, who suffered serious physical and emotional trauma while living with his uncle and his wife, has made remarkable progress and is now ready to take the next step in his academic journey.
According to her, Chimkamnayo has remained under her care since his rescue, receiving medical treatment, educational assistance, counselling and the support needed to rebuild his life.
Reflecting on the boy’s ordeal, Mrs Soludo said his story touched the hearts of many residents of the state and has since become a symbol of hope and resilience.
“Four years ago, in July 2022, Chimkamnayo’s story broke the hearts of many people in Anambra. He was rescued from a life of severe abuse and neglect, and at the time, many saw only a hurting child. Today, we see a strong and determined young man preparing for a brighter future,” she said.
She described his transformation as a testimony that difficult experiences do not have to determine a child’s destiny.

“What once appeared to be a story defined by pain has become one of healing, hope and transformation. He is now preparing to enter the university, and I am happy to reaffirm my commitment to supporting his education to whatever level he chooses to attain,” she added.
Mrs Soludo noted that Chimkamnayo’s journey demonstrates the importance of love, protection and a strong support system in helping vulnerable children recover from traumatic experiences.
She stressed that every child deserves the opportunity to heal, rediscover their self-worth and pursue their dreams.
The First Lady also disclosed that the teenager has expressed a desire to reconnect with his biological parents, adding that his wish would be respected while ensuring that his welfare remains a priority.
“While he reconnects with his family, he will continue to receive care and support, and his wellbeing will remain under the watch of the Anambra State Government,” she said.
She expressed hope that Chimkamnayo’s experience would inspire other children facing hardship and remind them that their present circumstances do not define their future.
“His story is not just about survival; it is about triumph. It shows what can happen when society refuses to give up on a child,” she said.
