The Cross River State Police Command has impounded 25 vehicles for violating registration plate regulations as part of a nationwide enforcement exercise ordered by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.
The operation, carried out on July 3, 2026, targeted vehicles moving without registration plates, those using covered, altered or defaced number plates, as well as vehicles displaying unauthorised dealer plates.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Sunday Eitokpah, said the affected vehicle owners are already undergoing the necessary legal and administrative processes and will be prosecuted in line with existing laws.
According to him, the enforcement exercise took place across Calabar metropolis, where officers intercepted the 25 vehicles found to be in violation of the directive.
He explained that the operation is aimed at improving public safety, making it easier to identify vehicles, and preventing criminals from taking advantage of concealed or unregistered number plates to evade security agencies.
Eitokpah added that the command remains committed to intelligence-driven and community-based policing, stressing that the enforcement exercise will continue across the state.
He also urged motorists to comply with vehicle registration and traffic regulations while encouraging residents to report suspicious activities through the police emergency contact lines.
