The Kuriga school children, who were rescued from their abductors in Zamfara State after 16 days, will reunite with their parents today. Their parents recently met with them at the Kaduna Women and Children Shelter, where the children are undergoing psycho-social treatment. It remains uncertain whether the six children admitted to the Dallet Barrack Hospital of the 1 Division Nigerian Army were among those reunited with their families.
The total number of abducted children was 137. Although journalists were not permitted inside the shelter, a recorded video of the meeting captured moments of joy as parents embraced their children, with some shedding tears of relief. At the gathering, attended by top government officials, including the Secretary to the Kaduna State Government, Abdulkadir Meyere, it was highlighted that the rescue operation fulfilled a promise made to the families.
Meyere, representing Governor Uba Sani, expressed gratitude for the safe return of the children, emphasizing the governor's personal connection to the affected families. He recalled the governor's visit to Kuriga on the day of the abduction, where he empathized with the parents and assured them that the rescued children are like his own.
