The Abia State Police Command has refuted rumors circulating on social and online media platforms regarding the alleged kidnapping of Archbishop Uka Uka Osim of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, along with his family members. Reports had claimed that the Archbishop and his family, along with three other clergymen, were abducted in Abia State on May 1, 2024.
Contrary to these reports, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Maureen Chinaka, clarified in a statement that the abduction did not occur in Abia State but in Awka, Anambra State. The statement emphasized that Bishop Dennis Onuoha of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star had confirmed that the incident took place in Anambra, not Abia State.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, urged the media, bloggers, and online reporters to verify information with appropriate authorities before publishing. He reassured the public of the police force's commitment to maintaining safety and security in Abia State, encouraging everyone to carry on with their lawful activities without fear.
