Human rights activist Saviour Iche, founder of the Ambassadors of Peace and Enlightenment Foundation (AMPEF), has begun a 24-hour hunger strike to protest against the government’s indifference to the increasing hardship faced by the masses. Iche aims to highlight the soaring prices of goods that have left many struggling to afford basic necessities, with some families managing only one meal a day.

Iche attributes the crisis to mismanagement and misuse of resources by government officials, noting a dramatic rise in the cost of essential goods such as fruits, vegetables, grains, and beverages. He pointed out that these price increases have severely impacted the cost of living for Nigerians.

Referring to the recent Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) strike, Iche explained that the protest aimed to alleviate the economic hardships affecting the population. He stressed that raising the minimum wage is crucial to help Nigerians cope with inflation and the high cost of living.

Iche called on President Bola Tinubu to address the rising food prices, describing this as the last hope for ordinary citizens. He urged the government to take immediate action to relieve the suffering of the people and ensure their access to basic necessities.
