The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa State is preparing for a gender-balanced approach in the upcoming local government elections scheduled for July 13 by the Adamawa Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC). PDP Chairman Barr Tahir Shehu announced that each male chairmanship candidate will nominate a female running mate, and any female chairperson candidate will select a male running mate.
This decision follows Governor Ahmadu Fintiri's directive to pair male and female members for the chairperson and vice-chairperson roles across all 21 local government areas. "By the grace of God, all LGAs that will be won by our party will have mixed gender in the positions of chairman and vice chairman," Shehu stated.

Shehu emphasized the PDP's commitment to gender sensitivity, noting that the deputy governor is a woman. He highlighted that women often outnumber men in voting and should be appreciated for their honesty and commitment. "We have every reason to encourage women for positions of leadership, and we have women of capacity all around us," he added.
The PDP plans to work closely with candidates to ensure the success of the gender pairing initiative, aiming to set an example of inclusive leadership in the upcoming council polls.
