The Adamawa State Police Command paraded 58 individuals on Tuesday, March 19, on various criminal charges. Among them, 40 were identified as members of the Shila Boys, a young criminal group known for engaging in daylight robberies in Yola, the state capital. Armed with knives, they often target residents for cash and mobile phones.
Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, disclosed that 11 of the suspects were involved in kidnapping, while seven were suspected highway robbers. The Shila Boys were apprehended at Sambisa Forest, a local forest near Yola, during a coordinated operation with hunters to curb their criminal activities.
Morris stated, “During this raiding operation, about 40 Shila Boys were arrested and dangerous weapons recovered from them.” He also mentioned the arrest of five armed robbery gang members in Jimeta, Yola, on March 17, after they robbed vehicle occupants from Taraba State.
The police commissioner further revealed the arrest of an armed kidnapping gang at Ngurore near Yola on March 5, following their terrorizing activities in the community. In total, the police have apprehended 40 Shila Boys, 11 suspected kidnappers, and seven suspected armed robbers within the past month, recovering items such as a Toyota Prado Jeep, a Hummer bus, two AK-47 rifles, charms, rings, and GSM phones.
