Adamawa State Government Launches Crackdown on Shila Boys Gang

Adamawa

The Adamawa State government has launched a renewed effort to curb the activities of a notorious gang known as the Shila Boys. These gangsters, primarily operating in Yola, the state capital, have become more brazen in their crimes, often using knives and other weapons to snatch valuables, especially phones. The state's Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, addressing the resurgence of the Shila Boys, stated that Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, who had previously reduced their activities significantly since taking office in 2019, has promised a new offensive against the group.

While details of the planned security measures were not disclosed due to their sensitive nature, Farauta emphasized that they are being handled discreetly. She hinted that part of the new strategy involves urging youths to abandon criminal activities and take advantage of the government's various economic empowerment programs. Farauta, speaking on behalf of Governor Fintiri, who is currently away from the state, also called on parents to play their role in guiding and mentoring their children away from criminal activities.

The Nation reported that over the past three months, the Adamawa State Police Command has made several arrests of individuals associated with the Shila Boys. This recent action by the state government reflects its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents, particularly in the face of increasing criminal activities perpetrated by groups like the Shila Boys.
