Adamawa State NDLEA Confiscates 4.7 Tons of Drugs and Arrests 454 Suspected Dealers

The Adamawa State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced significant progress in its fight against drug trafficking. From June 2023 to date, the command has confiscated 4,732.128 kilograms of various hard drugs and arrested 454 suspected dealers. The seized substances include Cannabis sativa (Indian hemp), Methamphetamine (Ice), Cocaine, Tramadol, Exol-5, Diazepam tablets, Codeine-based syrup, Rohypnol tablets, and Pentazocine injections.

According to Agboalu Samson, the NDLEA Commander in Adamawa State, the recent drug seizures represent a 75 percent increase compared to the previous accounting year (June 2022 to May 2023). Addressing journalists in Yola on June 21, at the start of activities marking the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Samson noted that while the number of illicit drug dealers has decreased, the scale of their operations has increased.

A notable case involved a raid on a house in Ngurore, Yola South Local Government Area, where NDLEA operatives, along with other agencies, seized 1,898 blocks of Cannabis sativa weighing 1,862 kilograms.

The commander highlighted that the arrests within the year included 447 males and seven females. Additionally, the command secured the court convictions of 148 individuals (145 males and three females). The sentences ranged from 10 to five years imprisonment, with the shortest being six months.

Samson emphasized that the prosecution of offenders is an ongoing process and reassured the public of the NDLEA's commitment to curbing drug abuse and illicit trafficking in Adamawa State.

During the media briefing, the NDLEA Commander also conducted a tour for journalists, showcasing the seized illicit drugs at the NDLEA headquarters in Yola.
