Adeboye Urges Tinubu to Give Security Chiefs 90-Day Deadline to End Terrorism

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Enoch Adeboye, has called on the Federal Government to give Nigeria’s security chiefs a 90-day ultimatum to eliminate terrorists across the country or step down from their positions.

Speaking in a video shared on his official social media platform on Tuesday, Adeboye expressed deep concern over the persistent insecurity in the country and urged authorities to take decisive action against terrorists and those sponsoring them.

The cleric said that while he could only offer advice to the Commander-in-Chief, he believed the government needed to act swiftly to address the worsening security situation.

“If I were asked to make suggestions, I would say quietly to our government, move fast and tell our security chiefs to get rid of these terrorists within 90 days or resign,” he said.

Adeboye stressed that the fight against insecurity should not stop at arresting or eliminating terrorists alone but should also target those funding and supporting their activities, regardless of their social or political influence.

“When giving orders to the service chiefs, it should be made clear that they are not only to eliminate the terrorists but also their sponsors, no matter how influential they may be,” he stated.

The respected cleric recalled an instance during the administration of a former Nigerian president who issued a similar directive to security chiefs, giving them a deadline to end Boko Haram activities or resign from office.

According to him, the directive initially prompted swift action from security agencies, although it was not fully enforced after the deadline expired.

“There was a president, now late, who called the service chiefs and told them to get rid of Boko Haram within three months or resign. They moved quickly after that order, but the directive was not fully followed through,” Adeboye said.

He noted that his experience and interactions with the late president informed his current recommendation to the government.

Adeboye’s comments come amid growing public concern over renewed attacks by terrorists, bandits, and kidnappers in several parts of Nigeria, including recent abductions, killings, and assaults on communities and schools.

The pastor maintained that stronger accountability measures for security leadership could help accelerate efforts to restore peace and security across the country.
