The Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) has confirmed that 12 political parties will present candidates in the local government election scheduled for Saturday, July 13. Notably, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) will not be participating, having expressed a lack of confidence in the election process.
The parties fielding candidates include Accord Party (AP), Action Alliance (AA), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Alliance Peoples Movement (APM), Labour Party (LP), All Peoples Party (APP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), National Rescue Movement (NRM), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Peoples Redemption Party (PDP).
ADSIEC Chairman Mohammed Umar assured that the commission will conduct a free and fair election, dismissing rumors of pre-written results and illegal disqualification of candidates. Umar emphasized the commission's readiness and commitment to a transparent process, with results to be entered from all 4,104 polling units across the state.
In total, 60 chairmanship candidates from the participating parties have been screened for the 21 local government areas of Adamawa State.
