The final round of group-stage matches at the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 kicks off on Monday, with several teams still battling for a place in the knockout stage.

According to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), only three teams — Egypt, Nigeria and Algeria — have so far secured qualification for the Round of 16 after winning their first two group games. This means the remaining spots will be decided in the last set of group fixtures.

CAF explained that the final matches will determine the top two teams in each group, who qualify automatically, as well as the best third-placed teams that can advance to the knockout phase.

In Group B, Egypt sit comfortably at the top with six points and are already through. However, the race behind them remains open. South Africa, second on three points, face Zimbabwe, while Angola and Zimbabwe are both on one point, with Angola needing a win against Egypt and favourable results elsewhere.

Group A is also wide open. Hosts Morocco lead with four points, while Mali and Zambia are tied on two points each. Comoros, on one point, still have a slim chance. Morocco will face Zambia, while Mali take on Comoros to decide who progresses.

Attention shifts on Tuesday to Group C, where Nigeria have already booked their place and will play Uganda. Tunisia, currently on three points, face Tanzania, with all three teams behind Nigeria still in the hunt for qualification.

Group D promises more drama, with Senegal and DR Congo both on four points, Benin on three points, and Botswana yet to pick up a point. Senegal will take on Benin, while DR Congo face Botswana.

The group stage wraps up on Wednesday. In Group E, Algeria have qualified, but Burkina Faso and Sudan, both on three points, are battling for the second spot. Group F remains tightly contested, with Cameroon and defending champions Côte d’Ivoire tied on four points, while Mozambique, on three points, still have a chance to progress despite Gabon’s elimination.

CAF noted that the AFCON is known for its unpredictability and expects the final group matches, spread across three days, to deliver plenty of late drama as teams fight for survival.
