Affordable Areas to Rent in Lagos

Looking for an apartment to rent in Lagos can feel overwhelming. Rents are high, demand is crazy, and many people end up spending most of their income just to keep a roof over their heads. On top of that, rental scams are everywhere, so it’s easy to get discouraged.

But the truth is, there are still places in Lagos where you can find decent apartments without breaking the bank. The city is huge and diverse, and while some neighborhoods are ridiculously expensive, others are still fairly affordable.

Here are 8 areas in Lagos where you can find cheaper apartments:

1. Agege

Agege is one of the more affordable parts of Lagos. You’ll find both old and new houses here, and transport is easy with quick access to the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. On the flip side, the area struggles with “area boys,” drug activities, and the bad smell around Oko-Oba abattoir.

2. Ikorodu

If you don’t mind living a bit far from the city center, Ikorodu is a solid choice. Rent is cheaper, and you can get around by road or even by boat. Families and young people like it, though traffic and security can sometimes be a problem.

3. Ojo

Ojo is a calmer environment compared to many Lagos neighborhoods. With LASU, the Trade Fair Complex, and ferry services nearby, it attracts students, families, and business people. It’s also fairly accessible from both the mainland and the Island.

4. Egbeda

Egbeda, in Alimosho, is growing fast and still affordable. It’s close to Ikeja, has a good road network, plus supermarkets and hospitals around. Young professionals and students love it, and families are moving in too.

5. Alagbado

Alagbado is another pocket-friendly option in Ifako-Ijaiye. Transport is not too stressful, and it works for both singles and families who want cheaper rent.

6. Ikotun/Igando

These neighboring communities have some of the cheapest flats in Lagos, from mini flats to family houses. They’re close to LASU and Alimosho General Hospital. The downside is distance from central Lagos and bad roads, especially during rainy season.

7. Badagry

Badagry is far, but very affordable. If you don’t mind long commutes, you can save a lot on rent. Plus, it’s a historically rich and peaceful area.

8. Mushin

Mushin is not the safest place in Lagos, but it’s right in the center and very affordable. If you’re focused on saving money and don’t mind the rough edges, it’s an option.
