The owner of Agidigbo FM, Oriyomi Hamzat, has been released from Agodi Correctional Centre in Ibadan, Oyo State, after meeting his bail conditions. Hamzat was freed alongside his co-accused, including Ooni of Ife's ex-queen, Naomi Silekunola, and Abdulahi Fasasi, the principal of Islamic High School, Bashorun.
The trio had been remanded over their alleged involvement in the December 2024 stampede at an event in Ibadan, which tragically claimed the lives of 35 children. Justice K. B. Olawoyin, on Monday, granted them bail with a bond of ₦10 million each and two sureties in like sums.
After his release on Tuesday, Hamzat was welcomed by a large crowd at Agidigbo FM, where he was seen in tears while addressing his supporters. In an emotional moment, he said, "Oriyomi is back. At this time, I am in a moment of silence. Thank you very much."
The Oyo State Government has filed an 18-count charge against Hamzat, Silekunola, and Fasasi, including conspiracy to commit murder, manslaughter, and criminal negligence. The prosecution claims their failure to provide adequate security, crowd control, and medical facilities during the event led to the deaths of 35 children, including Musiliu Sofiat, aged 8.
