A’Ibom gov signs N695bn 2025 supplementary budget into law

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has signed into law a ₦695 billion supplementary budget for the 2025 fiscal year, recently passed by the State House of Assembly.

The supplementary budget was approved on Tuesday after lawmakers adopted the report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, led by Itorobong Etim.

According to the committee, the ₦695 billion addition will be funded through several revenue streams, including statutory allocations, internally generated revenue, derivation funds, 13% arrears, signature bonuses, exchange gains, and VAT, among others.

The new budget includes ₦125.66 billion for recurrent expenditure and ₦569.33 billion for capital expenditure, bringing the state’s total revised 2025 budget size to ₦1.65 trillion — up from the initial ₦955 billion passed in December 2024.

The signing ceremony took place on Wednesday during the October edition of the State Project Delivery Meeting held at Government House, Uyo.

Speaking after signing the bill, Governor Eno thanked the Speaker and members of the Assembly for the speedy passage of the supplementary budget and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and people-focused governance.

“Let me assure the people of Akwa Ibom that all hands are on deck. With this supplementary budget, we are even more determined to deliver on our programmes and projects as outlined,” the governor said.

To fast-track development, Eno also approved ₦60 billion in payments to contractors whose project certificates had been verified. He directed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies — along with Project Delivery Advisors — to ensure strict adherence to project timelines and quality standards.

The October Project Delivery Meeting featured updates on 12 major initiatives across sectors, including the Tree Crop Revolution, State Electricity Market, Ibom Tourism projects, Oron Maritime Jetty, CNG City Bus Project, AKBC House, Ikot Ekpene International Market, Court of Appeal Complex, Ibom International Hospital, and several others.

Speaker of the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong, praised the governor for his inclusive leadership and innovative governance style.

“This delivery review system is new and commendable. It gives us a clear picture of progress across the state and strengthens our oversight role,” he said.
