Aisha Buhari, wife of former President Muhammadu Buhari, has officially left Daura, Katsina State, relocating with her family to the late president’s residence in Kaduna State, marking a symbolic end to the Buhari family's post-presidency retreat in their hometown.
The former First Lady arrived in Kaduna on Sunday via the Nigerian Air Force Base, accompanied by family members. She was received with warmth and ceremony by a high-powered delegation led by Kaduna State Deputy Governor, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, and the Majority Leader of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Munira Tanimu.
The new residence is situated in Ungwan Rimi GRA, the same house where President Buhari stayed prior to his medical trips abroad during his presidency. The move effectively transitions the Buhari family from their nearly two-year stay in Daura, where they had opted for a quieter lifestyle following Buhari’s departure from office in May 2023.
Notably, former President Buhari himself had moved to Kaduna in February 2025, signaling a gradual return to a more strategic location. His move was witnessed by dignitaries including Vice-President Kashim Shettima, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State, and Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna.
While the relocation may appear routine, political watchers say it could carry underlying significance, particularly as the 2027 election cycle looms and northern political blocs begin to realign.
This latest development raises speculation about what role, if any, the Buhari family might play in shaping the future of Nigeria’s political landscape from their new base in Kaduna.
