Akpabio Hails Peaceful APC Congress in Akwa Ibom, Backs Eno’s Leadership

President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has praised Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, for overseeing what he described as a peaceful and orderly state congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking in Uyo through a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Anietie Ekong, Akpabio expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise, noting that previous congresses in the state were often marred by factional disputes and controversy.

He recalled instances in the past where parallel congresses were held at different venues, sometimes leading to confusion over which outcome would be recognised by party leadership. He also mentioned that in some states, similar exercises had turned violent, with reports of casualties even at ward and local government levels.

“Today, we are conducting this congress peacefully, as though we are in church taking communion,” Akpabio said, attributing the calm atmosphere to the leadership style of Governor Eno. He thanked God for what he described as a new era of unity and stability in the state’s political process.

The Senate President commended the governor for broad consultations and inclusive governance, which he said made it possible for the new state executive committee to emerge through consensus, in line with the party’s constitution. He described the development as unprecedented and predicted that future elections in Akwa Ibom would follow the same peaceful pattern.

Akpabio also highlighted what he called a spirit of reconciliation, noting that former political rivals had come together during the congress.

He also expressed gratitude for the peaceful conduct of the ward, local government, and state congresses, reaffirming the state’s support for President Tinubu’s administration.

At the end of the exercise, Obong Stephen Ntukekpo was re-elected as the APC State Chairman and will continue to lead the party’s State Executive Committee with a focus on unity and grassroots mobilisation.
