The Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, has disbursed a total of ₦46,995,139.32 to families of officers who lost their lives in active service.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday in Uyo by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the funds were presented to beneficiaries under the Group Life Assurance Scheme and the IGP Family Welfare Scheme.
CP Azare commended the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for sustaining the initiative, describing it as a vital support system that shows the Nigeria Police Force has not forgotten the sacrifices of its fallen heroes.
The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the IGP and pledged to make judicious use of the funds.
In a related development, CP Azare also decorated newly promoted officers to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at the State Headquarters in Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo. He charged them to see their elevation as a call to higher responsibility, urging them to remain professional, avoid corruption, and remain committed to their duties.
Speaking on behalf of the promoted officers, DSP Nsikak Udedeh thanked the IGP and the command for the recognition, promising that the officers would not disappoint the leadership as they advance in their careers.
It would be recalled that just two days earlier, the Anambra State Police Command presented ₦59.2 million in insurance and welfare cheques to 38 families of fallen officers, underscoring the Force’s commitment to both remembrance and renewal.
