The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State has initiated a membership registration and reassessment exercise across the state's 31 Local Government Areas. The exercise, which began on Thursday, is set to conclude on Friday, May 31, 2024, as announced by the party's State Publicity Secretary, Borono Bassey, in a statement from Uyo, the state capital.
During the unveiling of the new registration campaign, the party's State Chairman, Aniekan Akpan, highlighted that the goal is to expand the party's already substantial membership base to approximately 6.9 million active members. Bassey emphasized the strategic importance of this exercise, stating that it aims to accommodate the increasing number of Akwa Ibomites eager to join the PDP.
The statement further clarified that the registration and reassessment drive is not only a directive from the party's National Headquarters but also a proactive step to welcome new members and update the status of existing ones. Governor Umo Eno cautioned that no member should be charged any fee for registration or reassessment, emphasizing the party's commitment to inclusivity and transparency.
