The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has successfully rescued a kidnapped victim and recovered his stolen vehicle following a tactical operation in Ikot Ekpene.

Confirming the development in a statement on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Timfon John, said the command received intelligence on February 13, 2025, regarding the abduction of a man along Okop Eto Road.

Gun Battle Ensues as Police Engage Kidnappers

“Based on credible intelligence, operatives of the command immediately launched an operation and engaged the kidnappers in a gun duel,” John stated.

The armed criminals, overwhelmed by superior firepower, abandoned the victim and fled with severe gunshot injuries, leaving him unharmed.

“The victim was rescued without any injuries, his Lexus RX 350 SUV (ash color) was recovered, and he has since been reunited with his family,” John added.

Police Launch Manhunt for Fleeing Suspects

While the operation was successful, efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects. Investigators are also working to recover weapons used in the crime and ensure justice is served.

The Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, commended the officers for their swift and professional response, reassuring residents of the command’s commitment to fighting criminal activities in the state.

John urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station for prompt action.

This latest operation reinforces the Akwa Ibom Police Command’s dedication to ensuring the safety and security of residents across the state.
