Akwa Ibom Traditional Rulers Confer ‘Otuekong’ Title on President Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has been honored with the highest traditional title in Akwa Ibom State, “Otuekong”, which means Commander-in-Chief of Akwa Ibom. The title was conferred by the Akwa Ibom State Council of Traditional Rulers on Friday at the State House, Abuja.

The President-General of the Council, Nteyin Solomon Etuk (Okuibom Ibibio III), led the conferment ceremony, accompanied by Governor Umo Eno and a 104-member delegation that included:

  • Senate President Godswill Akpabio and his wife, Ekaette
  • Religious leaders, former ministers, and lawmakers
  • Representatives from women and youth groups

President Tinubu’s Response

Accepting the honor, President Tinubu expressed his deep ties with Akwa Ibom, recalling his time in Eket as an auditor at Mobil. He emphasized the need for leaders to prioritize national progress over party politics, saying:

“We must work together to build the nation. Akwa Ibom has progressed rapidly because of its vision and collective goals.”

Tinubu’s Economic and Developmental Commitments

The President assured Akwa Ibom of his support for key infrastructure projects, noting that:

  • The 2025 budget has been signed, bringing more economic stability
  • His administration is committed to addressing ecological challenges and infrastructure development, including the Ibom Deep Sea Port

Praise for Governor Umo Eno

Tinubu commended Governor Umo Eno for his selfless leadership, describing him as a leader who fears God and loves his people.

“You have a very good governor. I have been following developments in the state,” Tinubu said.

Senate President Akpabio and Governor Eno’s Remarks

Senate President Godswill Akpabio praised Governor Umo Eno for fostering unity and harmony in Akwa Ibom, assuring the President of the state’s full support.

Governor Eno highlighted his administration’s achievements and expressed Akwa Ibom’s readiness to partner with the federal government on projects like the Ibom Deep Sea Port. He also thanked President Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu for their support following his wife’s passing.

The conferment of the “Otuekong” title further strengthens the bond between President Tinubu and Akwa Ibom, signaling enhanced collaboration for the state’s development.
