Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, has presented the first sample of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, produced at his refinery. The presentation took place on Tuesday during a broadcast from the refinery, located in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State.
The refinery, with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, has commenced a test run of petrol production. During the event, Dangote expressed his gratitude to the people of Nigeria and the government of President Bola Tinubu for fostering an environment conducive to growth, development, and prosperity.
“I would like to salute the people of Nigeria and the government of President Bola Tinubu for giving us the platform for growth, development, and prosperity. I also want to thank him personally for creating the idea of the Naira for crude. Doing that will give Naira stability,” Dangote stated.
He emphasized the significance of the refinery's operations, noting that it would enable Nigeria to accurately monitor fuel consumption, as every loaded truck and ship could be tracked.
Dangote also highlighted the broader impact of the refinery, stating that it would not only meet the demands of Nigeria but also serve the needs of sub-Saharan Africa.
The presentation marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s energy sector, with expectations that the refinery will contribute to stabilizing fuel prices and reducing the nation's reliance on imported petroleum products.
