Amotekun Arrests 46 Suspects Across Ondo, Recovers Stolen Items from Ex-Speaker’s Home

The Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as the Amotekun Corps, has arrested 46 suspected criminals across the 18 local government areas of the state in a series of security operations.

Among those arrested were a couple, Samson Osowe and his wife, Ayo Oguneso, who were accused of breaking into the residence of a former Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Mrs Jumoke Akindele, in Okitipupa and stealing several valuables.

Parading the suspects at the Amotekun headquarters in Alagbaka, Akure, the State Commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, said seven stolen mobile phones and other items taken from the former Speaker’s home had been recovered. He added that efforts to transport the stolen phones to Lagos for sale were successfully thwarted.

Adeleye disclosed that the suspects, along with a transporter allegedly hired to move the stolen items, had been arrested and would be charged to court.

“I am pleased to announce that all the phones stolen from the former Speaker have been recovered and are here with us. The suspects, Samson Osowe, 28, and his wife, Ayo Oguneso, 22, have been arrested alongside the transporter who was to take the phones to Lagos,” he said.

The commander also revealed that investigations led to the arrest of additional suspects linked to other criminal activities in the area.

According to him, the 46 suspects include 13 alleged kidnappers, two individuals arrested for violating the state’s anti-open grazing law, and 31 others linked to offences such as cultism, illegal possession of firearms, theft, and breach of public peace.

He explained that several of the suspected kidnappers were arrested in different locations, including Owo, Akure North, Akoko, and forest reserves within the state.

Among those arrested were individuals identified as Usman, Musa, Bakary, Muhammad, Hosseini, and David, who are suspected to have connections with kidnapping activities along the railroad corridor.

Adeleye also disclosed that one Seidu was arrested for allegedly supplying food and other necessities to kidnappers, while Ayuba and Umaru were apprehended for violating anti-open grazing regulations.

Reaffirming the corps’ commitment to maintaining security, the Amotekun commander stated that operatives remain active across all local government areas as part of ongoing security patrols and crime prevention efforts.

He assured residents that the corps would continue to intensify operations to ensure the safety of lives and property throughout the state.
