A group representing Labour Party 2023 House of Assembly candidates has criticized Anambra Governor Chukwuma Soludo, accusing his administration of exhibiting dictatorial tendencies in its two years in office. The group, through its spokesperson Hon. Humphrey Iloh, warned against what it described as the administration's actions of humiliation, intimidation, impoverishment, and violence against the people of the state.
The group's statement followed recent incidents, including the destruction of newspaper stands and the assault on newspaper vendors in Awka, as well as the alleged killing of Mr. Arinze Obuladike in Ogbo-ogwu, Onitsha, by the Special Anambra State Anti-Touting Squad (SASA). The group threatened to initiate impeachment proceedings against the Governor if such actions persist.
According to the group, the current administration's approach is contrary to the constitutional provision in Section 14(2)(b) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, which emphasizes the security and welfare of the people as the primary purpose of government. The group urged Governor Soludo's government to change its approach and refrain from further actions that harm the people of Anambra State.
In response, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) spokesman, Tony Olisa, dismissed the allegations as false and aimed at discrediting the Soludo-led administration. He refuted claims of violence against newspaper vendors in Awka and the killing of Mr. Arinze Obuladike, stating that the Special Anambra State Anti-Touting Squad operates within the confines of the law and does not engage in extrajudicial activities.
