Anambra Horror: Woman Arrested for Aiding Murder, Dismemberment of Pregnant Nurse

Anambra

Police in Anambra State have arrested a 24-year-old woman, Somtochukwu Nwafor, for her alleged role in the brutal murder and dismemberment of a pregnant nurse whose mutilated body was found dumped in a soakaway pit in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area.

The arrest was made possible through assistance from vigilant residents of Umueri village, Ogbunike, according to a statement issued by the state police spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga.

During police interrogation, Nwafor reportedly confessed to being the girlfriend of the prime suspect, Chiemerie Obika Elobisi—who is still on the run—and admitted to cleaning up the crime scene after the victim was killed. She further revealed that the victim’s body parts were sold to several native doctors in the area for suspected ritual purposes.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim, a trained nurse, was lured to the suspect’s house under the false pretense of providing medical assistance before being murdered.

Acting on the suspect’s confession, operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) raided a shrine belonging to one Nwafor Chibunna Ofornwatadile of Itima Amawa village, Ogbunike, on July 29, 2025. There, they discovered human body parts concealed in cellophane bags.

A manhunt is now underway for the prime suspect and others believed to be involved in the crime, including those who purchased the body parts.

Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, condemned the act as “inhumane, criminal, and an affront to public morality and the sanctity of life.” He urged anyone with credible information to come forward, assuring that informants' identities will be protected.
