The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State has firmly rejected any plans or suggestions of entering into political coalitions with other parties, describing such moves as unauthorized and illegitimate.
The position was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of an enlarged State Executive Committee (SEC) meeting and signed by the State Chairman, Chidi Chidebe.
According to the statement, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party is not in any coalition discussions, and therefore, the PDP in Anambra is also not party to any coalition talks.
“We strongly advise our members and stakeholders to steer clear of such activities, as they lack legitimacy, approval, or endorsement from the leadership of the party at both the state and national levels,” the communiqué stated.
The party emphasized that members must remain focused, disciplined, and resolute, pledging continued support for the National Leadership, Board of Trustees, PDP Governors' Forum, and other key stakeholders working to reposition the party.
Using a proverb to underscore its point, the communiqué added:
“No man abandons his house because of weed; we continue to pray that any man or woman raised and nurtured by this party whose intention is now to destroy it shall be put to shame.”
The SEC also expressed solidarity with top party leaders, including Senator Ben Ndi Obi, the Southeast Zonal Leader, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, and the national leadership of the PDP, commending their efforts towards peace, unity, and the restoration of the PDP as “the true hope of the Nigerian people.”
The statement carried a stern warning to party officers at all levels—state, local government, and ward—against participating in any unauthorized coalition meetings or political gatherings.
“Any member whose name is enlisted or associated with any unauthorised coalition group will be deemed to have exited the party. Consequently, any office such an individual occupies shall be declared vacant with immediate effect.”
The PDP SEC in Anambra reiterated its commitment to party discipline, unity, and democratic values, urging members to stay vigilant, loyal, and committed to the ongoing rejuvenation of the party ahead of future elections.
