The Anambra Police Command has taken decisive action against the rampant cult-related violence in Awka by apprehending 16 alleged cult members while declaring 21 others wanted. The capital city has been plagued by a wave of killings, with at least 34 individuals losing their lives since Easter.
The escalating violence prompted Hon. Henry Mbachu, representing Awka South 1 constituency, and other concerned stakeholders to sound the alarm, demanding an end to the bloodshed. They announced plans to convene a summit in May to address the crisis and find lasting solutions.
The arrests were made following intensive intelligence-led operations, as confirmed by the command's spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Tochukwu Ikenga. Those apprehended have been detained under the orders of Commissioner of Police Aderemi Adeoye, with a firm commitment from the CP and senior officers to ensure that those responsible for the killings are brought to justice.
The Anambra Police Command's swift response demonstrates its commitment to restoring peace and security in Awka, sending a clear message that such criminal activities will not be tolerated.
