APC Crisis Deepens: Kano State Suspends National Chairman Ganduje Over Corruption Allegations

The internal strife within the All Progressives Congress (APC) continues as members in Kano State have suspended the National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, over allegations of corruption. The suspension stems from accusations that Ganduje engaged in corrupt practices during his tenure as the governor of Kano State from 2015 to 2023.

Members of Ganduje's ward in Dawakin Tofa Local Government, Kano, emphasized that the suspension was a proactive measure to distance themselves from the alleged financial misconduct attributed to the national chairman. Speaking to journalists on Monday, the ward's legal adviser, Haladu Gwanjo, stated that Ganduje is accused of gross misconduct and misappropriation of public funds during his time as governor.

Gwanjo further explained that the decision to suspend Ganduje's membership was the result of a vote of no confidence passed against him. This was due to his failure to adequately address a variety of corruption allegations, including the widely circulated video allegedly showing him receiving bribes in dollars from a contractor.

The suspension of Ganduje adds to the ongoing crisis within the APC, as factions within the party clash over various issues. The development in Kano underscores the deep-rooted challenges facing the party, particularly regarding issues of accountability and transparency.

It remains to be seen how the APC leadership will respond to Ganduje's suspension and the broader implications it may have for the party's unity and stability. The situation highlights the need for internal reforms and stronger mechanisms to address allegations of corruption within the party's ranks.
