APC Demands Probe into Alleged Diversion of Federal Government Rice by Kano Officials

APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called for an investigation into the alleged diversion of rice donated by the Federal Government to the Kano State Government, urging for the urgent prosecution of those found responsible. State Chairman Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas expressed concern over repeated allegations of palliatives being misappropriated by officials in the NNPP-led administration.

Abbas highlighted several instances, including the discovery of hundreds of bags of rice labeled "Federal Government Food Security Programme" at a private school owned by Chief of Staff Shehu Sagagi. He also referenced the arrest of Tasiu Al’amin-Roba, allegedly working for the Secretary to the State Government, in connection with palliatives diversion. The APC chairman accused the state government of rebranding federal palliatives with the Governor’s image and the NNPP logo, selling them to party members instead of distributing them to those in need.

In response, Shehu Sagagi denied the allegations, stating that the rice found in his Islamic school was either purchased with his own funds or donated by others. He emphasized his long-standing commitment to feeding children at his school, a practice that predates his role as Chief of Staff. Sagagi assured the public of his integrity and willingness to cooperate fully with any investigation, asserting his dedication to transparency and accountability.

The APC warned that failure to address these concerns might be seen as tacit support for corrupt practices and as an attempt to undermine the efforts of President Bola Tinubu’s administration in aiding the people of Kano State.
