The Kaduna State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended its Women’s Leader, Maryam Suleiman, for criticizing Governor Uba Sani over the state's huge debt inherited from the previous administration. Governor Sani's spokesman, Alhaji Mohammed Shehu, stated that the governor would not dignify Nasir El-Rufai's son, Bashir, with a response to his criticism of the governor.
The suspension notice, dated March 31, 2024, accused Suleiman of gross misconduct and actions aimed at tarnishing the governor's reputation. It was signed by the APC Chairman and Secretary of the Badarawa/Malali ward, Ali Maishago and Zakkah Bassahuwa, respectively.
Governor Sani had recently lamented the state's financial situation, citing a $587 million debt, N85 billion, and 115 contractual liabilities left by his predecessor. In response, Suleiman criticized the governor in a viral video, accusing him of mismanagement and advising him to take responsibility for his actions instead of blaming El-Rufai.
The APC cited Article 21, 2 (v) of its constitution in suspending Suleiman indefinitely pending further investigation into the allegations against her. Meanwhile, Governor Sani's spokesman emphasized that the governor's focus is on steering Kaduna State towards progress and sustainable development, despite the challenges inherited from the previous administration.
