The All Progressives Congress (APC) achieved a sweeping victory in the Cross River State local government council elections, securing all 18 chairmanship positions and 196 councillorship seats. Dr. Ekong Bocco, Chairman of the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC), announced the results on Sunday.
Certificates of return were presented to the elected council leaders, which included three women among the chairpersons. In his remarks, Dr. Bocco congratulated the winners and underscored the importance of delivering on campaign promises, highlighting the role of local government councils in fostering democratic governance.
At the ceremony, Hon. Emmanuel Ironbar, Chief of Staff to the Governor, emphasized the critical tasks ahead, urging the newly elected officials to prioritize transparency and uphold the People First Mantra championed by Governor Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu. He noted that the local election success further strengthens the State’s commitment to effective governance, aimed at improving the lives of Cross River residents.
