Appeal Court Affirms Okpebholo’s Victory as Edo Governor, Dismisses Ighodalo’s Petition

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has upheld the election of Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the duly elected governor of Edo State.

Delivering judgment on Thursday, a three-member panel of the appellate court unanimously dismissed the appeal filed by Asue Ighodalo, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing it as unmeritorious.

The court ruled that Ighodalo and the PDP failed to establish any error in the judgment of the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which had earlier affirmed Okpebholo’s election in its April 2 ruling.

Consequently, the appellate court affirmed the tribunal’s decision and declared that Senator Okpebholo remains the validly elected governor following the September 21, 2024, gubernatorial poll.
