Army Council Promotes 35 Brigadier Generals to Major General, Elevates 73 Colonels to Brigadier General

The Army Council has approved the promotion of 35 Brigadier Generals to the rank of Major General and 73 Colonels to the rank of Brigadier General. The announcement was made in a statement released on Friday by the Army spokesman, Maj.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu.

Among those promoted to Major General are:

  • Brig Gen A. Garba, Acting Provost Marshal, Nigerian Army
  • Brig Gen U.M. Alkali, Deputy Chief of Administration, Directorate of Veteran Affairs (Army)
  • Brig Gen A.G.L. Haruna, Acting General Officer Commanding 7 Division and Commander Sector 1 North East Operation HADIN KAI
  • Brig Gen I.A. Ajose, Acting General Officer Commanding 8 Division and Commander Sector 2 North West Operation FANSAN YAMA
  • Brig Gen N.B. Ebulue, Headquarters Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre
  • Brig Gen L.G. Lepdung, Commander Operation WHIRL STROKE

Other promoted officers include directors, commanders, and leaders across various Nigerian Army divisions, commands, and departments, such as Brig Gen O.A. Awolo, Director of Military Training at the Nigerian Defence Academy, and Brig Gen U.G. Ogeleka, Commander of Nigerian Army Space Command.

Colonels promoted to Brigadier General include:

  • Col S.M. Iliya, Commander 43 Engineers Brigade
  • Col O. Igwe, Commander 78 Supply and Transport
  • Col N.E. Udofia, Headquarters Nigerian Army Electrical Mechanical Engineers
  • Col G.S. Oyinwola, Army Headquarters Department of Military Secretary
  • Col C.I. Nwonyi, Commander 81 Division Provost Group

Additional names reflect leadership across the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, and the Department of Army Operations.

In his congratulatory message, Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, commended the newly promoted officers and their families for their achievements. He urged them to lead by example, innovate, and devise effective solutions to address Nigeria’s pressing security challenges.

The promotions reflect the Army’s commitment to recognizing outstanding service and equipping its leadership to confront contemporary security threats.
