Army Destroys Terrorist Camp in Kogi, Recovers Ammunition

Troops of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have recorded a major breakthrough in Kogi State after successfully clearing a terrorist camp and recovering arms and ammunition under Operation IGBO IDANU I.

The Army disclosed this in a statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, describing the operation as a decisive blow against a terrorist group linked to Kachalla Ibrahim and Shu’aibu.

According to the statement, the troops moved through thick forests, difficult terrain and several riverine obstacles to reach the camp. The Army noted that despite challenges such as fallen trees and marshy ground, the soldiers showed resilience and tactical discipline.

The operation was personally led by the Commander of the 12 Brigade, Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi.

The Army explained that the troops dismounted and advanced on foot to achieve surprise, which allowed them to penetrate deep into the terrorist enclave and completely clear the camp.

Although the terrorists reportedly fled immediately after sighting the advancing troops, the Army said a detailed search of the area led to the recovery of a large cache of ammunition.

Items recovered include eight boxes of 7.62 x 54 link ammunition, containing bandoliers of 250 rounds each, as well as one box of high-velocity grenades.

The Army stated that the recovered weapons have significantly weakened the group’s ability to carry out attacks and sustain operations.

After the operation, the camp was destroyed and set on fire to prevent the terrorists from returning.

Troops are said to be continuing patrols and offensive operations in the area to track fleeing suspects and stop them from regrouping.

The Army added that the success of the operation is a strong warning that terrorist hideouts will continue to be identified and eliminated, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring peace and security in the region.
