Army kills seven terrorists, arrests 27 others during nationwide operations

The Nigerian Army says it has stepped up nationwide operations against terrorists, insurgents, and economic saboteurs, recording major breakthroughs in the last 48 hours.

The renewed push follows fresh directives from the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, who ordered troops to “completely annihilate terrorists and dismantle all networks of criminality.”

In a statement posted on its official X handle on Sunday, the Army outlined the latest achievements across various theatres of operation.

According to the update, troops neutralised seven terrorists, arrested 27 suspects, and recovered weapons, ammunition, and stolen crude products during coordinated raids and ambushes.

In the North-East, troops of Sector 3 Operation HADIN KAI carried out a precise cordon-and-search mission in Anguwan Church, Monguno, Borno State, where 12 suspects linked to terror logistics and intelligence networks were arrested.

Also, soldiers of the 192 Battalion ambushed ISWAP/JAS fighters along the Gwoza–Limankara axis, killing three terrorists and recovering an AK-47 rifle and five rounds of ammunition.

Troops of 25 Brigade in Damboa also neutralised a terrorist who attempted to infiltrate their location under false pretences to gather intelligence.

The North-West and North-Central zones also recorded gains. In Kaduna State, troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE raided a terrorist hideout in Kauru LGA, killing two insurgents linked to recent attacks on civilians.

In Plateau State, four suspects were arrested over the killing of two civilians in Riyom LGA, while in Niger State, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA eliminated a terrorist scout and recovered a motorcycle, phone, and other items.

The Army said operations in the South-South yielded further results. In Akwa Ibom, troops of 2 Brigade arrested three illegal miners dealing in black sand. In Abia State, 144 Battalion discovered an illegal refining site containing over 1,000 litres of stolen crude oil.

Similarly, troops of 34 Artillery Brigade uncovered another illegal refining hub in Ohaji/Egbema, Imo State, recovering six drums of stolen crude oil and a canoe used for transportation.

In Delta State, troops of 90 Amphibious Battalion arrested three suspects—including a man posing as a soldier in full camouflage—at a snap checkpoint in Sapele. Fake military ranks, phones, and charms were recovered from them, and the suspects are now under investigation.

The statement assured Nigerians that the Army remains resolute in restoring peace, protecting citizens, and defending the nation’s sovereignty. It also called on the public to support ongoing operations by providing credible, timely information.
