Arrest Made in Horrific Rape and Murder Case of Pregnant Woman in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended a suspect, Emeka, believed to be involved in the rape and death of Mrs Chigbewejim Steward, a pregnant woman. The incident occurred in Abarikpo community of Ahoada East Local Government Area. Emeka, along with his accomplices, allegedly assaulted the victim, resulting in her tragic demise.

Reports indicate that the confrontation between Emeka and the deceased took place on February 12, 2023. Subsequently, Emeka orchestrated the abduction of Mrs Steward with the help of his gang. The victim, who was five months pregnant at the time, was then taken to an undisclosed location where she was subjected to brutal assault.

Following the assault, Emeka absconded from the area upon learning that the police were searching for him. However, after 15 months of evading capture, the police managed to track him down. Chigbewejim's husband, Lawyer Steward, expressed relief at Emeka's arrest, urging the government to ensure that justice prevails in this case.

Emeka's arrest sheds light on the tragic fate of Mrs Steward, who was found near a fishing pond with signs of physical trauma. The Police Command, through its spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the ongoing investigation and assured that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department.
