The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa Chapter, has strongly condemned the recent dismissal of five lecturers from various universities. Dr. Rotimi Olorunisola, ASUU Chairman for OAUSTECH, denounced the actions taken by the Governing Councils of Lagos State University (LASU), Kogi State University (KSU), and Ebonyi State University (EBSU).

In a statement issued on Wednesday in Okitipupa, Olorunisola accused these institutions of "illegally" dismissing lecturers, which he claims violates due process and assaults the autonomy of the academic profession. He asserted that such actions are not only a disregard for the dedication of academics to knowledge and nation-building but also an attempt to undermine academic freedom.

Olorunisola criticized the governing councils for acting against established labour laws, university statutes, and principles of natural justice. He declared that ASUU would not tolerate the unlawful victimization of its members and demanded the immediate reinstatement of the dismissed lecturers. He called on the Federal Government, state authorities, and education sector stakeholders to intervene and address the injustice.

“ASUU will not stand idly by while our members are unlawfully victimised and their rights trampled upon,” Olorunisola stated. He warned that if the situation is not rectified, ASUU would consider escalating its actions to defend the rights and dignity of academic staff. He emphasized that the union would not be intimidated or suppressed by actions that disregard the rule of law and collective agreements governing academic institutions.
