Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on President Bola Tinubu to take a cue from Argentine President Javier Milei's economic policies for accelerated growth in Nigeria. Atiku made this plea in a tweet last night, citing a report by Reuters on Argentina's market optimism and urging decisive action to tackle Nigeria's economic challenges.

In his tweet, Atiku highlighted similarities between Nigeria and Argentina's economic situations at the end of 2023. He noted that both countries faced economic downturns and underwent leadership changes around the same period. While Argentina's President Milei took office in December 2023 with a commitment to revitalizing the economy, Atiku urged Tinubu to learn from Milei's approach.

Atiku emphasized that Nigeria's current economic status is a result of actions or inactions by Tinubu, dismissing blame-shifting to the opposition or predecessors as unnecessary and short-sighted. He praised Milei's efforts in Argentina, citing his focus on macroeconomic stability, promotion of competitiveness, and attraction of foreign investment through prudent measures.

Drawing a comparison, Atiku highlighted Milei's modest approach to governance, such as traveling in regular business class and avoiding extravagant expenditures. He contrasted this with the Nigerian context, suggesting a need for similar fiscal discipline and prioritization of economic recovery.

Atiku concluded by expressing his readiness to engage with the Federal Government to discuss his proposed solutions for Nigeria's economic restoration, noting his admiration for Argentina's economic reforms under Milei's leadership.
