Barcelona has appointed former Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick as their new manager on a two-year contract. Flick, who was dismissed by Germany in September 2023, replaces Xavi, who was sacked last week. Flick's tenure with Germany followed his remarkable success with Bayern Munich, where he led the team to a treble in 2020, winning the Bundesliga, German Cup, and Champions League.
Flick expressed his excitement about joining Barcelona, calling it a "big honor" and a "dream." He emphasized his eagerness for titles and aligned his coaching philosophy of possession-based, attacking football with Barcelona's style. "We won some titles with Bayern Munich, and my hunger is really big for titles. I think we can achieve a lot together," he said.
Departing manager Xavi, who was sacked a month after being assured of his position, warned that his successor will face challenges. Despite guiding Barcelona to La Liga and Spanish Super Cup victories in his first full season, the club finished 10 points behind champions Real Madrid this season.
Barcelona lauded Flick's appointment in a statement, highlighting his reputation for high pressing, intense, and daring football, which has brought him success at both club and international levels. Flick has been out of work since his departure from the German national team eight months ago.
