Benue State Secures €25m for Major Road Construction Project

The Benue State Government has secured €25 million from the European Investment Bank to construct 500 kilometers of roads across the state. This was disclosed by Stephen Numbeve, the State Coordinator for the Benue Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), during a briefing in Makurdi on Thursday.

Numbeve confirmed that all necessary paperwork has been completed, and the agency will commence work as soon as the funds are disbursed. Road designs for 300 kilometers have already been finalized, with the remaining 200 kilometers currently in the design phase.

The project will span 53 road networks across Benue State. Numbeve highlighted that Benue, along with six other states including Edo, Anambra, Cross River, Taraba, and Borno, secured a total of €150 million, with each state receiving €25 million. The Minister of Finance has signed the necessary agreements with the European Investment Bank, and disbursement is expected by the end of June.

To ensure prompt commencement, RAAMP has already signed contracts and mobilized contractors for the 200-kilometer segment. Once disbursement is received, construction will begin on the full 500 kilometers, significantly enhancing the state's infrastructure and accessibility.
