Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga has confirmed that former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Betta Edu, has been formally dismissed from her role following a cabinet reshuffle by President Bola Tinubu. The statement, made during an interview on Politics Today, ends months of speculation about Edu’s potential reinstatement.
Edu’s suspension, initially announced in January, came amidst allegations of a N585 million scandal within her ministry. Tinubu has since directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to launch an investigation into the financial dealings of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and related agencies.
On Edu’s exit, Onanuga stated, “Betta Edu is gone. Her position has been filled by another appointee from Plateau state, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda.” He emphasized that there would be no place for her in the current administration.
Adding weight to the decision, Onanuga noted, “The EFCC has not released any findings publicly, but the President’s actions suggest there may be justifiable grounds for the decision to remove her.”
