New revelations have surfaced regarding Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, and his six-month sentence at the Ikoyi Custodial Centre for naira abuse. Sources claim that after initial detention in Ikoyi, Bobrisky was transferred to the Kirikiri Medium Security Custodial Centre and later to the Maximum Security facility, allegedly to manage the publicity surrounding his incarceration.
Sources revealed that Bobrisky received visits from family members and might have been placed in a "special cell" reserved for high-profile inmates. This special arrangement allegedly came at a cost, sparking concerns about preferential treatment. However, the Nigerian Correctional Service has denied such claims, asserting that all inmates are treated equally.
Further fueling the controversy, Bobrisky reportedly borrowed N4 million to fund his time in a private apartment near the prison, a claim that he later denied. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is investigating these allegations after a social media activist called out Bobrisky over unpaid debts and accusations of bribing officials.
Amidst the uproar, the Minister of Interior ordered the suspension of key prison officials while investigations continue. Human rights activists have raised concerns over corruption in Nigeria’s correctional facilities, calling for accountability and transparency in addressing the situation.
